About the Manon Rheaume Foundation

Manon Rheaume formed the Manon Rheaume Foundation in 2008 as a way to give back to the community and to the game of ice hockey. Her desire is to use her experience as the first female NHL hockey player to inspire young girls to reach for their dreams while overcoming obstacles and, through her Foundation, to provide scholarships for young women to assist them as they seek to fulfill their aspirations.

Manon in full hockey equipment.Manon Rheaume, age 36, "The First Woman of Hockey,™" was the first female to play professional hockey, signing a contract to play goalie for the Tampa Bay Lightning in 1992. No woman has signed a professional hockey contract in North America in the 16 years since. While the challenges of being the only woman in professional hockey were significant, Manon has consistently demonstrated that she has the skills to compete at the highest levels. As a member of Team Canada, Manon helped lead her team to a Silver Medal in the 1998 Nagano Games. As Team Canada's goaltender, she won Gold Medals at the 1992 and 1994 World Hockey Championships. She currently competes with former NHL stars in charity games across the U.S. and Canada.

Manon has numerous national media appearances to her credit, including interviews on "The Today Show", "Late Night with David Letterman", "CBS This Morning", ESPN, "Good Morning America", "Entertainment Tonight", "MTV's House of Style", "A Current Affair" and "Maury Povich".

Manon's video credits include "Cross Training with the Pros," "Reebok's Winning Body Workout" (also featuring Nancy Kerrigan and Liz Masakayan), the documentary "Portraits of Courage" (also featuring Shirley Muldowney and Boomer Esiason), and "Woman Behind the Mask." She is the subject of the biography Alone in Front of the Net.

Manon Rheaume was born and raised in Quebec City, Canada, and began playing hockey at the early age of 5. She currently resides in Northville, Michigan with her family.
